- Depression and anxiety
- PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder)
- Sleep disturbances and memory problems
- Distorted sense of time
- Confusion, irritability, difficulty concentrating
- Trouble making decisions
- Self-blame and low self-esteem
Behavioral reactions may include:
- Substance abuse
- Social isolation
- Strong reactions to even small life changes
Work and Family Life
Violence may impact the ability to manage everyday tasks—things the individual was previously able to handle.
For example, they may struggle to meet the responsibilities of being a parent, which can affect their children’s wellbeing.
Another consequence may be the inability to perform adequately at work, potentially resulting in job loss.
For ethnic minorities, ending a relationship with a violent partner may also lead to loss of social networks and residence permits.
